Adding a domain and DNS records

Add your domain in the web app, then publish four DNS records at your DNS host: MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC. TuskMail shows the exact values to copy and checks them for you.

Using TuskMail: Adding a domain and DNS records

How do I add a domain?

  1. Open Domains

In the web app, go to Domains and add your domain name, for example yourcompany.co.ke.
  2. Copy the records

The domain page lists every required record with its type, host and value.
  3. Publish them at your DNS host

Add each record where your domain's DNS is managed (your registrar or DNS provider).
  4. Check DNS

Use the Check DNS button. Each record is marked as OK or needing attention. DNS changes can take time to spread.

Which DNS records are needed?

Required DNS records
NameTypeDescription
MXMXHost: your domain. Value: mail.tuskmail.africa, priority 10. Routes incoming mail to TuskMail.
SPFTXTHost: your domain. Example: v=spf1 mx -all. Says which servers may send for your domain.
DKIMTXTA signing key record generated for your domain. Copy the exact name and value from the app; it is long.
DMARCTXTHost: _dmarc. Example: v=DMARC1; p=quarantine; rua=mailto:[email protected].
Example records (use the values shown in the app)
MX yourcompany.co.ke 10 mail.tuskmail.africa
TXT yourcompany.co.ke v=spf1 mx -all
TXT <dkim-selector>._domainkey.yourcompany.co.ke <long key shown in the app>
TXT _dmarc.yourcompany.co.ke v=DMARC1; p=quarantine; rua=mailto:[email protected]

What if my domain already has mail records?

A domain should point to one mail provider. Replace old MX records with the TuskMail one, and merge your SPF into a single SPF record instead of publishing two.

Why does a domain show as blocked?

If the business subscription expires after the grace period, all its domains are blocked until payment. See billing.
