App passwords

An app password is a separate password for one mailbox, used by other email apps and by the TuskMail API, so you never share your real password.

Using TuskMail: App passwords

How do I create an app password?

  1. Open Settings > App passwords

Pick the mailbox if you manage several.
  2. Create

Give it a name you will recognise, such as “Thunderbird laptop”.
  3. Copy it now

The password is shown only once. Store it in a password manager.

Where can I use it?

  • IMAP and SMTP apps: see connect other apps.
  • The TuskMail API: send it as HTTP Basic credentials together with an API key from Settings > Developers. See the API docs.

How do I revoke one?

Delete it from the same list. Any app using it stops working immediately. Create one app password per app so you can revoke them separately.
